George Street is now one-way from Verulam Road to Romeland Hill and is closed to traffic from 11am on Saturdays to 7am on Mondays. We've made this change permanent, with some adjustments to loading times.
Now that these changes have been in effect for a while, we'd like to hear your thoughts.
Take part in our consultation to let us know if we should keep the current one-way system with no traffic on weekends, or return to having two-way traffic every day.
Consultation start date: 18 November 2024
Consultation closing date:16 December 2024 (11.45pm)
Working closely with local stakeholders we have run a series of changes to the way George Street is used since the pandemic.
Currently the George Street is one-way from Verulam Road to Romeland Hill and is closed to traffic from 11am on Saturdays to 7am on Mondays. This also includes a contraflow cycle lane to assist people riding bikes to travel to the city centre. This arrangement was the final phase of the trials which has been optimised following comments from residents, traders and stakeholders throughout the process.
We would now like to invite you to take part in our consultation to let us know if we should keep the current arrangement in George Street (one-way system with no traffic on weekends), or return the street to having two-way traffic every day.
