We are committed to working with operators and adjacent local authorities to improve airport access but we are constrained by the funding available and will thus rely heavily on the airport providers for the necessary finance. We are currently reviewing the proposal for a Watford – St Albans – Welwyn Garden City – Stansted service with Manchester Airports Group, which owns Stansted Airport. However we are having to withdraw the link to Stansted provided by service 700, which underlines the fact that such services are not necessarily profitable. This affects principally North Herts and Stevenage rather than Central Herts but there remains the National Express service 737 operating via Hitchin, Stevenage and Standon to Stansted in addition to the 777 which runs via Hatfield.
