‘To keep the streetlights turned on all night:The Council’s policy on this matter, which is definitive and consistent, is that part night lighting has been implemented across the County with few exceptions.I would advise that continuous monitoring has shown that overall, there is no evidence to suggest that part night lighting has exacerbated crime levels at night. The local chief inspectors of Hertfordshire Constabulary for Welwyn Hatfield and Stevenage Districts have confirmed in writing in early April 2018 that this position has not changed. Therefore the street lights will remain in part night lighting. However, we will consider reverting to full night light, if the local chief inspector of Hertfordshire Constabulary makes a request based on the level of crime or anti-social behaviour, so you may wish to contact the local chief inspector directly.I trust the above information is of assistance.
