What do I get?

With your library card, you can:

  • borrow a huge range of books, ebooks, audiobooks and magazines
  • use library computers and the internet for free
  • access a range of online resources, from historical newspapers to the family history websites Ancestry and Findmypast.

Services for Carers
  • Reduced late fees on books, magazines and talking books
  • Keep your items for up to 6 weeks

  • Borrow talking books for free.

You can apply for a carer’s library card at your local library, or call us on 0300 123 4049. If you have trouble getting to a library, try the Home Library Service to bring the library to your doorstep.

  • Picture books for young children featuring Giant Print and Braille
  • Tactile board books with braille style numbering, play elements and high contrast images

Reading Sight is a bank of resources to support anyone with an interest in helping people with sight loss to access reading and reading services.

Calibre Audio is a national charity providing a collection of over 16,000 audiobooks for anyone who finds it difficult to read print.

Listening Books are an audiobook service for anyone who finds that disability or illness affects their ability to read the printed word or hold a book.

British Wireless for the blind fund provides free, specially adapted audio equipment to visually impaired people across the UK who would not otherwise be able to afford it.

Living Paintings Trust provides tactile books and illustrations for partially sighted and blind adults and children.

ClearVision is a postal lending library of children’s books designed to be shared by visually impaired and sighted children and adults.

RNIB have a free library with over 60,000 titles for adults and children including audio and braille. They also provide a guide to accessible apps, and what apps can do for blind and partially sighted users. 

 

After 2 years...

Every 2 years, we need to check that we have up-to-date contact details for your library membership. Some online resources like BorrowBox won't work until the check is completed. Simply visit your library or contact us if you can’t come to your local library.
