Asbestos is hazardous waste. Don't put it in your bin at home.

Our asbestos drop-off service has been delayed. We will update this webpage once we know when the service will begin.

You will soon be able to pre-book a slot to drop-off small quantities of household asbestos at Welwyn Garden City Recycling Centre and Ware Recycling Centre.

Contact a private contractor if you currently have asbestos waste to dispose of.

Once the pre-booked drop-off service is available, you will be able to:

  • book 1 asbestos drop-off per year
  • bring 1 bag of asbestos per visit (max 20kg)
  • dispose of bonded white asbestos (chrysotile). We don't accept any other type of asbestos.

If you’re not sure whether your asbestos is bonded white (chrysotile), you’ll need to get a private contractor to confirm.

How to safely package your waste

You must properly package your asbestos waste before attending your booking slot. As per HSE guidelines, asbestos waste must be double bagged and taped securely in UN approved asbestos packaging, using a red inner bag with asbestos warnings and a clear outer bag.

You can buy approved asbestos waste bags online and from various DIY stores.

We won't accept waste in split or torn packaging.

Failure to follow this guidance may result in your waste being refused.

We only accept asbestos where:
