Why? If you put the wrong item in your home recycling: it might not get recycled it could spoil the rest of your recycling it could cause problems with our machinery it can't be reused - consider donating your unwanted household items. Not sure if it can be recycled? Try our A to Z list. Check with your district or borough council. Print off our leaflet (PDF) as a reminder. If you're still not sure, put it in your general waste bin.
Keep it clean and empty Please make sure your recycling is clean and empty by pouring out any liquid and rinsing it in old dishwater to remove food residue.
Why? Only the container can be recycled. Any food or liquid left in it: can spoil paper and carboard by making it soggy. can stick to other recycling, reducing its quality and value. is unpleasant for our staff to sort through. makes your bin and our lorries smell bad.
