Property ownership enquiries

Before we can respond to an enquiry, you'll first need to:

  1. Check the land registry (gov.uk) to get the property's postcode and/or title name.
  2. Contact the district/borough council that the property is located in. If the local authority can confirm they own the land or building, they'll support you with your query.

If the district council has confirmed they are not the owner of the property, you can make an enquiry through us.

You'll need to include the following information:

  • Postcode and/or title number
  • A plan or map (we will accept Google Maps)
  • Local authority correspondence about this land/building
  • Details of your enquiry
  • Your contact details.

Rural Estate

Our rural estate covers around 10,800 acres of Hertfordshire and provides business opportunities and jobs, creates new woodlands, improves access to the countryside, and helps wildlife to thrive. Find out more in our Rural estate strategic plan (PDF 3.31MB).

Clubs and services

Public domain properties that we own but no longer need are put up for sale. The properties are advertised and sold through an outside local agent - we do not list them on our website.

What we do

We own or lease around 2,200 property assets. 

These help us to deliver services as diverse as schools, libraries, fire stations, waste management sites, adult and children’s social care.

Every year, we review our land and properties with the service teams. If we find we no longer need some properties, we’ll make them available for rent or sale.

Framework agreement arrangements
Our frameworks provide us, and other local public sector bodies including schools, with access to a wide range of property maintenance, management and construction services.

There are no guaranteed volumes or values of works attached to the framework agreements, and the authorities named as users of the frameworks have no obligation to use them.
